Montepulciano e Monticchiello
Montepulciano has been called the gateway to Val d’Orcia. Located up on a hill, before approaching it you find the Pieve di San Biagio a fantastic Renaissance piece. The historical centre with its cathedral, Palazzo del Comune (town hall) and its splendid wine cellars located in ancient underground passages where the fine Nobile di Montepulciano wine may be tasted.

Monticchiello is one of the loveliest small stone villages of the whole Val d’Orcia. High up on a hill, with a perfect view of the countryside. In the summer months, it offers the Teatro Povero, an open air theatre, with acting by the villagers. Now famous all over the area, they have been acting in the Tuscan slang dialect for decades.
