I live in Montalcino, a beautiful little town in Tuscany. In this page we explain you how to reach Montalcino.

Directions to Montalcino

Fly to Rome, Florence or Pisa. Other transportation is necessary directly to Montalcino.

By Car

Click on the map to enlarge itYou can rent a car (Maggiore, Hertz or Avis) and drive from Pisa, to Florence, to Siena then take SS 2 in the direction Rome.

From Florence to Siena there is a toll-free road of 65 km. Then take the SS2 Cassia state road in the direction of Rome until you reach Montalcino (about 38 km from Siena).

From Rome you can rent a car (Maggiore, Hertz or Avis). Take the SS1 in the direction of Civitavecchia (north). This is the coastal highway to Grosseto.

From Grosseto follow directions to Roselle, Monte Amiata, and after 20 km. turn left, follow direction to Montalcino. Cross the river Orcia and enter the wineway, la via del Brunello that will take you directly to Montalcino.

By Train

You can take a train from Pisa to Grosseto, where you ask for the special train to Siena. Get off at Buonconvento and take the bus to Montalcino, which is only 8 km away.

From Florence, you can easily get a train to Siena and from Siena to Buonconvento. From Buonconvento take a bus up to Montalcino.

You can get from Rome Termini Railway Station a train to Grosseto and 3 times a day there is a connection for Grosseto-Siena. You will get off at Buonconvento, which is 8 km. from Montalcino, in the valley. From Buonconvento take a bus up to Montalcino.

Remember to ask for a timetable for weekdays, weekends and holidays, depending on your planned date of arrival.
